Character Name: Gartnait map Muc
Nationality: Pict
Character Age: 43
Profession: Pictish Chief
Family Members: TBD
Hair Color: Grey
Eye Color: Blue
Physical Appearance: Tall, imposing, older, ragged.
Personality: Arrogant, arbitrary, cynical, content, proud, wroth, kind, unfriendly.
Brief History: Gartnait was born to his father Gearth, Chief of the Tribe of Muc. He was raised to be a warrior as all his ancestors had been throughout the generations of his family. Through the teachings of his father, mother and the elders of his home he was able to learn skills in working with nature, working with the blade and fighting as well as knowledge of religion and the connection with nature necessary for all religious Picts. Gartnait had always been a straight arrow, he had never strayed from his destiny as to put it at risk of disappearing and he had never made any mistakes large enough to risk his Chiefdom in his later years. He works as hard as his mind can linger on one subject, with him often dabbling in several things without getting anything really done. Gartnait prides himself on his content mindset, and thinks that he has not come across any great misfortunes because he has not had any wantingness to change his own life for the better. Gartnait is of the opinion that ambitious men only get their heads chopped off.
In addition Gartnait is very cynical. Because of what he has seen, the loss of soldiers to almost nothing, the loss of friends to sicknesses that nature could not cure, he has stopped believing in many things that others do believe in. He believes that the spirits do not value the human beings on the Earth and that it is the duty of humans to appease the spirits in order for the spirits to grant the human gifts or to answer the humans wants. Gartnait believes that because very little people are willing to make great sacrifices, many people go without the blessings of the spirits and fall to ill omens. Because of these beliefs Gartnait is very religious, making daily trips to the shrine to worship and attempt to communicate and speak to the spirits. Despite his cynicism in most things, religion his his exception.
Gartnait contently lives in a modest and small home like many other fine homes within the Pictish stronghold, protected by the walls of his settlement from the horrors that lie beyond. Gartnait does not need extravagant wears as many Angle lords would want, he does not need a grand palace or home to live in like many Angle lords. He instead chooses to live in a modest home where he resides today, conducting all business of his realm. Surprisingly, as per almost all Picts, he is able to conduct all the business of his lands without the ability to read. Those elders that can read record his will as well as the history of the Picts on great stones that stand throughout the Pictish lands. Gartnait uses delegation as a tactic to bring fourth loyalty from his people, he allocates power to skilled men so that he has less to do and more loyal, highly placed and rewarded followers.
Gartnait, despite being a modest fighter, fears war and fighting because of what it can do to people and their holdings. He fears losing what he has and intends to keep what he has, he does not intend to strive for more unless he absolutely has to. This has been the practice of his family for many generations and the reason why his family has retained their title for such a long time. However with more powerful men rising in Gartnait's holdings and a stronger Bernacian Angle kingdom south of the wall, Gartnait and the Muc Tribe seem at high risk of losing everything if the wrong decisions are made.
